On Tuesday, May 15th, Higher Grounds - STAR officially re-opened for business. Scott Thrasher Herndon, who was the manager of the old location on the corner of Wayne and Calhoun St., is now the proud owner of this location. The brightly painted interior is small, but perfect for popping in quickly for a cup of coffee on your way to work. If you need an excuse to not rush back to your desk, there is seating in the beautifully restored STAR Bank lobby. In addition to the regular assortment of coffee drinks there is a wide selection of teas, sandwiches from Deli 620, and assorted sweet snacks.
Fort Wayne Mayor, Tom Henry, spoke about the importance of small businesses like Higher Grounds STAR being downtown. He noted that while Parkview Field and The Embassy bring people downtown, it’s the restaurants and other hospitality oriented businesses that encourage people to stay downtown. We hope that Higher Grounds STAR is now a permanent downtown fixture and wish Scott the best of luck with his new business.

Yummee’s provided tiny cupcakes.

Jimmy John’s, who moved into the old Higher Grounds location, sent a nice “Welcome Box”.

Baristas were hustling on a busy opening day afternoon.

Higher Grounds STAR also has a nice selection of teas for the non-coffee lovers.

They also have grab and go sandwiches from Deli 620.
